BIOGRAPHY

Bernar VENET (born in 1941)
Born in 1941 in Château-Arnoux-Saint-Auban, Bernar Venet is one of the leading figures in contemporary sculpture. A self-taught artist, he settled in Nice in the late 1950s, where he frequented avant-garde circles and developed an early interest in the relationship between art, science, and mathematics. From the 1960s onward, he developed a conceptual body of work grounded in intellectual rigor, using industrial materials such as tar, coal, and steel.
Settling in New York in 1966, he quickly established himself on the international scene. From the 1970s onward, he explored the form of the line, the angle, and the curve, giving rise to vast, monumental Corten steel sculptures that have become emblematic of his work. Through their formal restraint and spatial power, these works engage in a dialogue with architecture and landscape. Exhibited in the world's leading museums and public spaces, Bernar Venet embodies a demanding approach where thought structures form.
