BIOGRAPHY

Jean-Pierre PINCEMIN
(1944-2005)
Born in Paris in 1944, Jean-Pierre Pincemin was a French painter and sculptor successively associated with the Support/Surface then to the New figure.
A self-taught artist, he began with abstract works where the material, the canvas and the gesture are laid bare.
In the 1980s, he returned to figurative art, developing a broad and vibrant style of painting, nourished by classical and spiritual references. For Pincemin, the pictorial surface becomes a site of tension between order and chaos, between culture and emotion. His work, of great formal intensity, testifies to a quest for truth through painting itself. He died in 2005, leaving behind a dense, demanding body of work, both intellectual and sensual.
